The film The Warriors, set circa 1979, revolves primarily around the Warriors gang, but the video game of the same name is set in the months leading up to the events of the film and introduces more characters, and also goes into the already introduced ones in better detail. As the film is loosely based on Anabasis by Xenophon, a number of characters and gangs represent ancient Greek mythological figures. [edit] Major characters[edit] AjaxAppearances: film and video game Ajax is a member of The Warriors, and is the roughest and toughest member of the gang. He is White and wears a black A-shirt under his colors, and fingerless gloves. Ajax joined the Warriors on June 15, 1978, and he and Snow fought off a number of other Warriors members to earn their colors. Later that night, their vests were stolen from them by The Destroyers and the pair had to fight their way into Destroyer territory to retrieve them. He did not get on with Swan being Warlord after Cleon was killed at the meeting, protesting that he wanted to be the leader. He fought off the Baseball Furies in Riverside Park and has a large sexual appetite for women. This proved to be his downfall as he attempted to rape an undercover policewoman in the park, leading to his arrest. He is named after the mythological Greek hero. He was played and voiced by James Remar. [edit] CleonAppearances: film and video game Cleon was the co-founder of The Warriors and Warlord prior to Swan. He is African American and wears a leopard skin do-rag on his head. He founded the Warriors with Vermin on April 16, 1978 when the pair left The Destroyers. He picked out eight fellow Warriors to head up to The Bronx for the meeting with Cyrus and all the other gangs. Unfortunately, The Rogues framed Cleon for killing Cyrus and he is killed by the Gramercy Riffs. In a deleted scene from the film, Cleon is shown talking to the gang, and why he picked them out of a street family of 120, plus affiliates. In this scene we also see Lincoln, Cleon's girlfriend, who has a bad feeling about them going to The Bronx. He is named after the ancient Greek ruler. He was played and voiced by Dorsey Wright. [edit] CochiseAppearances: film and video game Cochise is a Warriors member. He is African American, sports an afro with a bandana tied around it and wears Native American-style clothing. Cochise was originally from Harlem but later moved to Coney Island with his mother, where he joined The Warriors on August 18, 1978. He earned his colors by going back to Harlem with Snow and stealing the hat from Big Moe, the leader of The Boppers. He is a good fighter, and showed off his cool moves whilst fighting The Punks, but got seduced by The Lizzies and almost got shot and then slashed with a flick-knife. He is named after the Native American leader. He was played and voiced by David Harris. [edit] CowboyAppearances: film and video game Cowboy is a member of The Warriors. He is White, and wears a Stetson cowboy hat, hence the name, and a brown T-shirt under his vest. He is the cheeriest member of the gang, but is also very quiet and nervous before the meeting. He joined The Warriors on May 6, 1978, after being noticed by Cleon and Vermin at a King of the Hill competition with Swan. He was beaten up by The Baseball Furies after the meeting but held his own in the fight against The Punks. He was played by Tom McKitterick and voiced by Kurt Bauccio. [edit] FoxAppearances: film and video game Fox is a member of The Warriors. He is White and wears a white vest underneath his colors, and a gold chain. He also buttons up his vest, unlike most other Warriors members. He is skilled in negotiation and is incredibly street-wise, which is why he is the gang's scout and negotiator. It is possible he is called Fox due to his fast running. We see these running skills when they are chased by a bus by the Turnbull AC's. He joined The Warriors on July 22, 1978 and earned his colors by going to Chinatown, Manhattan with Vermin and stealing the loan books from The Savage Huns. Both wore T-shirts reading "FUCK U HUNS!". At the meeting, he witnessed Luther shooting Cyrus and was almost shot himself. He also helped Swan negotiate with The Orphans. He was thrown in front of a train by a police officer on the way back from the meeting. He was played and voiced by Thomas G. Waites. [edit] MercyAppearances: film and video game Mercy is the girlfriend of The Warriors leader Swan, ex-girlfriend of The Orphans leader Sully and possibly a prostitute. She is White and wears a pink top and skirt at most times when she is shown, except when she stole a dark blue jacket to use as a disguise from the police. She leaves The Orphans for The Warriors when the gangs meet in Tremont after the meeting as she is impressed by their manliness, and Swan in particular. At first, she is just looking for sex but a relationship between her and Swan eventually blossoms. Much about her life and aspirations is shown throughout the film. She was played and voiced by Deborah Van Valkenburgh. [edit] LutherAppearances: film and video game Luther is the leader of The Rogues and the man responsible for shooting and killing Cyrus, the Gramercy Riffs leader, for which he framed The Warriors. He is a small man with extremely violent and psychopathic tendencies, and wears a police badge which suggests he may have killed a police officer. He possesses one of the few firearms seen in the film and video game, but is also something of a coward and bully. He killed Cyrus merely because "I just like doing stuff like that!". When he led his gang into Coney Island to fight The Warriors, he was stabbed in the wrist by their leader, Swan, after he tried to shoot him. He is killed by the Riffs after they find out that he killed their leader. He was played by David Patrick Kelly and voiced by Oliver Wyman. [edit] RembrandtAppearances: film and video game Rembrandt is the youngest and least battle-hardened of The Warriors members chosen to attend the meeting, and was only brought along to tag places that the gang had been, as he is their graffiti artist. He is Hispanic (possibly Puerto Rican), sports an afro and carries a messenger bag which he keeps his spray paint in. He joined The Warriors on April 13, 1979, alongside Ash, and earned his colors by fighting off a number of bums and other Warriors members. After the meeting, he got slashed on the arm by The Lizzies when they lured The Warriors into a trap, even though he was the cautious one who could sense that something wasn't quite right. He proved to be a capable fighter, however, against The Punks and used his paint to spray them in the eyes. He is named after the Dutch painter. He was played by Marcelino Sanchez, and voiced by Andy Senor and Vaneik Echeverria. [edit] SnowAppearances: film and video game Snowball, commonly known as Snow, is a member of The Warriors. He is African American, has an afro and rarely speaks, but usually says something meaningful or wise when he does. He is named Snow because of his ability to remain cool-headed under pressure, and in a deleted scene from the film he is seen carrying a ghetto blaster, suggesting he is a music man. He joined The Warriors on June 15, 1978, and he and Ajax fought off a number of other Warriors members to earn their colours. Later that night, their vests were stolen from them by The Destroyers and the pair had to fight their way into Destroyer territory to retrieve them. Snow is a very good fighter and displays some good moves in the subway station when fighting The Punks and also shows strength when fighting The Baseball Furies. He also has good knowledge of other gangs. He was played by Brian Tyler and voiced by Sekou Campbell. [edit] SwanAppearances: film and video game Swan is The Warriors' Warchief, and later Warlord. He is White and is not very vocal, but still possesses strong fighting and leadership skills. He joined The Warriors on May 6, 1978, after being noticed by Cleon and Vermin at a King of the Hill competition with Cowboy. Swan was chosen as Cleon's second-in-command before the meeting and took over as leader after Cleon was killed by the Gramercy Riffs. He then led The Warriors back to Coney Island where he was confronted by Luther, the leader of The Rogues. He stabbed Luther in the wrist with a Switchblade as he tried to pull a gun. It is suggested that he leaves the gang life and the city, possibly with Mercy, and gives up his role as Warlord. He was played and voiced by Michael Beck. [edit] VerminAppearances: film and video game Vermin is a member of The Warriors. He is White and often complains, but is also light-hearted and comical at times. He co-founded the Warriors with Cleon on April 16, 1978 when the pair left The Destroyers. When returning from the ill-fated meeting, he, Cochise and Rembrandt meet The Lizzies in the subway station and return to their apartment with them, expecting partying and sex. It is a trap, however, as The Lizzies attempt to kill them and the trio narrowly escape. Vermin says some comical phrases such as "hurt me, hurt me!" and "when I got off that subway and I saw you, I thought, oh baby throw it my way!". He was played by Terry Michos and voiced by Joe Lo Truglio. [edit] Supporting characters[edit] AshAppearances: video game Ash is a young African American member of The Warriors. He wears a headband, jeans and stylish Adidas sneakers, as well as his Warriors vest. He joined The Warriors on April 13, 1979, alongside Rembrandt, and earned his colors by fighting off a number of bums and other Warriors members. On June 21 1979, he was beaten to death by The Destroyers, and his vest removed. His body was then used as bait also to kill Cleon and Swan, which they failed to do. That same night The Warriors invaded the Destroyers turf to wipe them out for good, thus avenging Ash. He was voiced by Ephraim Benton. [edit] Big MoeAppearances: video game Big Moe is the leader of The Boppers. He is African American, bald and stands at around 6'4" with proportionate girth. He wears a size-9 fedora and size 17 shoes. Cochise, a member of The Warriors, was ordered by Cleon to go with Snow and retrieve Big Moe's hat by any means possible to achieve full status in the gang, so entered Moe's local disco hall, beat him up and stole his hat. He was voiced by Billy Griffith. [edit] BirdieAppearances: video game Birdie is a lieutenent of the Turnbull AC's, and a Vietnam War veteran. He is in a wheelchair, most likely due to injuries attained during the war, and bullies other members of his gang. He was killed by The Warriors, in retaliation for having his gang ambush two of their members. He, like Luther, uses a handgun when fighting The Warriors. He was voiced by Joe Lo Truglio. [edit] ChatterboxAppearances: video game Chatterbox is the leader of The Hi-Hats. He is extermely obese, around 6'4" tall, speaks with a stutter and wears clown makeup, rather than mime makeup like the rest of his gang. He and his gang held a graffiti art competition for members of other gangs to attend on his turf. It was a set-up, however, to trap the other gangs and attack them. Members of The Warriors escaped to his personal art gallery where he has a toilet in plain view, and wrecked it. In retalliation, he went to Coney Island to confront them and get some payback. The Warriors killed him, however, by luring him onto a ride track when a roller coaster was oncoming. He was voiced by Jordan Gelber. [edit] CobbAppearances: video game Cobb is the Warlord of The Baseball Furies. He is around 6'5" tall, wears all-black, an umpire's chest-plate and his weapon of choice is a set of two baseball bats duct-taped together. His "warpaint" suggests the head of death and is similar to the skull logo used by punk band The Misfits. He is named after baseball legend Ty Cobb. When The Baseball Furies chase The Warriors through Riverside Park, the conflict comes to an end when he takes them on himself, ultimately getting beaten up along with the rest of The Furies. He never speaks, like the rest of his gang. [edit] CyrusAppearances: film and video game Cyrus is the President of the Gramercy Riffs and the man responsible for calling the meeting in Van Cortlandt Park. He is African American, or possibly mixed race, and wears a flamboyant robe. He had plans for all of New York City's gangs to unite and control the city as one, taxing both the crime syndicates and the police. However, he was shot and killed by The Rogues while giving his speech at the summit. He was played by Roger Hill and voiced by Michael Potts. [edit] DiegoAppearances: video game Diego is the co-leader of The Hurricanes alongside his younger brother, Vargas. He is Puerto Rican American, heavily tattooed, 6'3" tall, shirtless and is bald with a beard. He was beaten up by The Warriors when he tried to defend his friend, Sanchez, from them when they came to take the money he owed them. He was voiced by Lloyd Floyd. [edit] The DJAppearances: film and video game The DJ is an unnamed African American female disk jockey on a New York City radio station. She reports on gang activity in the city and keeps gang members informed on which gangs have alliances and rivalries. She was played by Lynne Thigpen and voiced by Pat Floyd. [edit] EdgeAppearances: video game Edge is the Warlord of The Saracens. He is responsible for securing a place for The Warriors on the Gramercy Riffs' network after they frame The Jones Street Boys (the Saracens' rivals) by planting drugs on them and alerting the police. He is said to be one of the toughest brawlers in all of New York City. He was voiced by El-P. [edit] GhostAppearances: video game Ghost (Chinese: 幽靈) is the leader of The Savage Huns. He is Chinese, has white hair, and wears a black suit and red shirt. He is never heard to speak, even in his native tongue. He is beaten up by The Warriors when he tries to stop them from stealing his gambling books. [edit] KnoxAppearances: video game Knox is the leader of The Jones Street Boys. He is White, has red hair and wears a black and yellow-striped shirt, like the rest of his gang. He was arrested after members of The Warriors planted drugs in his gang's hang-out and alerted the authorities. He was voiced by Lee Aaron Rosen. [edit] MasaiAppearances: film and video game Masai was the Gramercy Riffs' second-in-charge but took leadership after Cyrus was killed. He is African American, and wears a black robe and sunglasses. He was informed by The Rogues that The Warriors shot Cyrus and attempts to hunt them down and bring them to justice. He is later told by an eye witness, however, that it was The Rogues who shot Cyrus. He and his gang then apprahend The Rogues and most likely kill them. He was played by Dennis Gregory and voiced by Charles Parnell. [edit] SanchezAppearances: video game Sanchez is an affiliate of The Hurricanes. He is Puerto Rican American, wears a brown shirt and tan trousers, and has slicked-back hair. He owes money to Ajax, a member of The Warriors, and when they come to collect it, he calls on his friends to fight off The Warriors. The Warriors battle through, however, and chase Sanchez to a rooftop in Spanish Harlem. As Ajax and his gang surround him, he accidentally falls to his death. He was voiced by Luis Jose Lopez. [edit] SpiderAppearances: video game Spider is the co-leader of the Satan's Mothers along with Tiny. He is White, has a handlebar moustache and dresses in typical biker fashion; he wears a military-style motorcycle helmet, a black leather vest and fingerless gloves. He and his gang pursue Cleon and Vermin of The Destroyers after they attempt to rip them off in a drug deal (actually a set-up by The Destroyers leader, Virgil). He and Tiny chase them to a warehouse roof but are defeated by the pair in the ensuing fight. [edit] StarrAppearances: film and video game Starr is the leader, or at least most prominent, of The Lizzies. She and her gang meet a number of The Warriors at a subway station after the meeting. She and her gang then take them back to their hang-out where she makes out with Vermin. She then tries to shoot The Warriors, however, as she thinks they killed Cyrus. She was played by Kate Klugman and voiced by Maine Anders. [edit] SullyAppearances: film and video game Sully is The Orphans' leader, and is a coward and incapable fighter. He tells The DJ that he and his gang beat up The Warriors and she broadcasts it across the city on her radio station. This information is untrue, however, and The Warriors track him down and wreck his beloved car. Later on, after the meeting, he tries to stop The Warriors from passing through his gang's turf but is chased when a Molotov cocktail is thrown towards his gang. He was played by Paul Greco and voiced by Robert Cihra. [edit] TinyAppearances: video game Tiny is the co-leader of the Satan's Mothers along with Spider. He is White, around 6'3" tall, bald and has a beard. He and his gang pursue Cleon and Vermin of The Destroyers after they attempt to rip them off in a drug deal (actually a set-up by The Destroyers leader, Virgil). He and Spider chase them to a warehouse roof but are defeated by the pair in the ensuing fight. [edit] VargasAppearances: video game Vargas is the co-leader of The Hurricanes alongside his older brother, Diego. He is Puerto Rican American, heavily tattooed, around 6'4" tall and wears a white vest. He also sports a mohawk haircut and a handlebar moustache. He was beaten up by The Warriors when he tried to defend his friend, Sanchez, from them when they came to take the money he owed them. [edit] VirgilAppearances: video game Virgil is the leader of The Destroyers. He is African American, sports an afro with a comb stuck in it and is a cocaine addict. He is extremely paranoid and tried to get two of his Warchiefs, Cleon and Vermin, killed in a set-up drug deal with the Satan's Mothers by giving them fake drugs. The pair escaped the melee, however, and went on to form their own gang, The Warriors. He later attempted to kill Cleon again, by killing Ash, a Warriors New Blood, and using his body as bait. When Cleon and Swan, another Warrior, went to retrieve the body, Virgil and his men tried to hit them with Molotov cocktails but they escaped once more. Cleon and Vermin eventually kill him by trapping him in an abandoned warehouse and burning it down. The Destroyers then disbanded. He was voiced by Curtiss Cook. [edit] Minor characters[edit] BeansyAppearances: video game Beansy is a Lieutenant, or possibly Warchief, in The Destroyers. He is African American, and wears glasses and a Russian hat. He is heavily bullied by Virgil and at one point was beaten by him with a pool cue. He was beaten up, along with the rest of his gang, in a conflict with The Warriors but it is unknown if he is killed or not. He is similar in appearance to English musician Lightspeed Champion. He was voiced by Omar Scroggins. [edit] C-StyleAppearances: video game C-Style is a member of The Panzers, and the gang's graffiti artist. He represented the gang at The Hi-Hats' graffiti art competition in SoHo, where a number of gangs battled it out to determine who had the best mural. The competition was a set-up, however, and The Hi-Hats ambushed the attending gangs. [edit] CharlieAppearances: video game Charlie is the owner of "Charlie's Plumbing Store" in Western Coney Island. His store is wrecked by The Warriors in order for them to send a warning. He then begins paying protection money to them. He was voiced by Kurt Rhoads. [edit] CrackerjackAppearances: video game Crackerjack is the Warchief of The Hi-Hats. He wears mime makeup, a white and black-striped shirt and white top hat. He took over as Warlord of the gang when Chatterbox was killed. He was voiced by Adam Sietz. [edit] CropsyAppearances: film and video game Cropsy is the Warchief of The Rogues. He is White, around 6 feet tall, has long hair and wears a black cap, like most of his gang. He is often bullied by Luther, The Rogues leader, and is most likely killed with the rest of his gang when the Gramercy Riffs apprahend them for killing Cyrus. He was played by Joel Weiss. [edit] EnderAppearances: video game Ender is a member of The Electric Eliminators, and the gang's graffiti artist. He represented the gang at The Hi-Hats' graffiti art competition in SoHo, where a number of gangs battled it out to determine who had the best mural. The competition was a set-up, however, and The Hi-Hats ambushed the attending gangs. He was voiced by Raz Cunningham. [edit] GalaxyAppearances: video game Galaxy is a Coney Island-based pimp who works for The Destroyers. He is a stereotypical 1970's pimp; he is African American, wears a flamboyant pink suit and hat, and yellow shirt. He and his prostitutes were beaten up by The Warriors when they decided to force all Destroyers off their turf. [edit] Garrison and HarrisonAppearances: video game Garrison is a rookie detective in the New York Police Department and is the partner of Harrison, an older more experienced police officer. The pair are responsible for arresting two dirty cops, who were in league with The Jones Street Boys, after stolen goods were planted in their car by The Warriors. Garrison was voiced by Steve Hamm, and Harrison was voiced by John Tormey. [edit] JasperAppearances: video game Jasper is a resident of Western Coney Island. He is the mascot for "Tiki Mayhem" and the costume that he is required to wear was stolen, so he hired Warriors to get it back for him and beat up the man who stole it. [edit] JesseAppearances: film and video game Jesse is the Warchief of The Orphans. He is Hispanic, has an afro and is sometimes referred to as "tubby". He also has a goatee and a Puerto Rican flag tattooed on his left arm. He was played by Apache Ramos and voiced by Nelson Vasquez. [edit] LafondaAppearances: video game Lafonda is the African American girlfriend of LC, a Destroyers Lieutenant. Her boyfriend, LC, steals the colors from Ajax, a Warriors member, then goes back to her apartment. Ajax follows him, however, takes back his vest and beats him up. Lafonda then has sex with Ajax and shouts to him as he leaves, "hey, Ajax, call me!". This alerts other Destroyers and they chase Ajax back to his own turf. [edit] L.C.Appearances: video game L.C. is a drug addict and Lieutenant, or possibly Warchief, in The Destroyers. He helped Virgil set Cleon and Vermin up by providing them with fake drugs before their deal with the Satan's Mothers. He is later kicked out of the flophouse that would become the Warrior's hangout and is beaten up by Ajax for stealing his vest. He tries to avoid the final confrontation between the Warriors and the Destroyer's, but is knocked out by Cleon. It is unknown if he lives or dies. He was voiced by Leif Riddell. [edit] LemmyAppearances: video game Lemmy is a Lieutenant, or possibly Warchief, in The Destroyers. He is African American, over 6 feet tall, bald and rather muscular. He beat up and stole the vest from Snow, a member of The Warriors, but was later beat up himself and the vest stolen back after Snow and Ajax hunted him down. He supplied The Jones Street Boys with drugs. It is unknown if this was on an industrial scale or simply for recreational use, however. He was voiced by Chandler Parker. [edit] LincolnAppearances: film (deleted scene) Lincoln is the girlfriend of Cleon. She is African American and has dreadlocks. She is only shown in a deleted scene from the film, in which she tells Cleon that she has a bad feeling about The Warriors going to The Bronx for the meeting. She was played by Pamela Poitier. [edit] Luna-51Appearances: video game Luna-51 is a member of The Moonrunners, and the gang's graffiti artist. He is one of the few White members in the gang. He represented The Moonrunners at The Hi-Hats' graffiti art competition in SoHo, where a number of gangs battled it out to determine who had the best mural. The competition was a set-up, however, and The Hi-Hats ambushed the attending gangs. [edit] MaurieAppearances: video game Maurie is the pitboss in a Destroyers-owned gambling den in Eastern Coney Island. He himself is also a member of The Destroyers. He was killed by The Warriors when they raided the den; they set the building on fire using Molotov cocktails and he was locked inside a cage designed to stop robberies. [edit] Mr. PongAppearances: video game Mr. Pong (Chinese: 龐先生) is a member of the Chinatown Triads and an associate of The Savage Huns. He is Chinese and wears a white suit and hat. He is an illegal loanshark and uses The Savage Huns to collect his debts by any means. [edit] RandyAppearances: video game Randy is a night watchman security guard who works in Western Coney Island. He payed The Warriors to catch and beat up a local stalker, as his boss refused to believe his warnings about a stalker in the area. [edit] ReggieAppearances: video game Reggie is a Boppers Lieutenant who frequents the night clubs in West Harlem. He is shown to be extremely disrespectful and abusive to women, and it is possible that he is a pimp. When The Warriors attacked his club, they beat him into giving away the whereabouts of The Boppers' leader, Big Moe. [edit] RudyAppearances: video game Rudy is a homeless alcoholic from Western Coney Island. He is also a war veteran. The Warriors payed him and his friends in Liqueur to let Rembrandt and Ash beat them up during their initiation. [edit] SammyAppearances: video game Sammy (Chinese: 薩米) is an illegal loanshark, affiliated with The Savage Huns and the Chinatown Triads. He is Chinese American, wears sunglasses, a blue suit jacket with a red shirt and black leather gloves. He was beaten up by The Warriors and his loan books stolen, during their invasion of Chinatown. [edit] ScopesAppearances: video game Scopes is a graffiti artist and a good friend of Rembrandt, a Warriors member. He is African American and wears a stylish blue tracksuit top, sunglasses and a hat. He was almost killed by The Hi-Hats when they threw him off of a scaffold at a set-up graffiti art competition. He was voiced by Darryl McDaniels. [edit] Skinny PeteAppearances: video game Skinny Pete is a White Jamaican who owns "Voodoo Motors", a second hand car dealership in Western Coney Island. He dresses like a tramp, has a beard and wears a top hat. His store is wrecked by The Warriors in order for them to send a warning. He then begins paying protection money to them. He was voiced by Karl and Kurt Weibel. [edit] StefanoAppearances: video game Stefano is an Italian butcher who owns "The Meat Market" with his sons in Western Coney Island. His store is wrecked by The Warriors in order for them to send a warning. He then begins paying protection money to them. He was voiced by Rocco Sisto. [edit] TonyAppearances: video game Tony is the owner of "Tony & Bros" fish market in Western Coney Island. Ash of The Warriors was murdered by The Destroyers when he was sent to guard Tony's shop, and he was left to deliver the news, and Ash's discarded vest, to The Warriors' leader Cleon. [edit] TwiggyAppearances: video game Twiggy is a hippy stoner who owns "The Little Buddha", a shop in Western Coney Island that sells bongs, T-shirts and records. He is also a cannabis dealer. Twiggy dresses in typical hippy fashion, sports long hair and a beard, colored sunglasses, and a bandana. His store is wrecked by The Warriors in order for them to send a warning.
