Brisbane Roar FC is an Australian association football team who currently play in the A-League, the national domestic association football competition. Formerly known as Queensland Roar FC, it was founded in 2004 as an inaugural member of the eight-team league.[1] The A-League competition consists of a regular season and a finals series of the top four teams, with the premiership being awarded to the club who finishes on top of the table in the regular season, and the championship to the winner of the Grand Final.[2] The Roar have missed the finals in both of the A-League seasons to date, finishing sixth in 2005–06 and fifth in 2006–07 on goal difference to Sydney FC, who finished fourth.[3] This list includes players that have played at least one match, either as a starting player or a substitute, for the Roar in the A-League competition and the finals series. The Pre-Season Cup competition is not included. The Roar have had several players compete for them who have been capped at international level including a number for Australia and one for China. This includes the current record-holder for goals for the Australian national team, Damian Mori, who is the current equal-leading goalscorer for the Roar.[4] [edit] Records - As of 9 October 2009. Only A-League matches are counted.
Matt McKay has played the most games for the Roar in the A-League, with 84. Seo had played in every match for the Queensland Roar in the first two A-League seasons. He is one of only four current Brisbane Roar players to be in the foundation squad of 2005, the others being Josh McCloughan, Massimo Murdocca and Ben Griffin. Sergio van Dijk holds the record for most goals in a season with 11, in the 2008-2009 A-League Season. Alex Brosque scored 8 goals during the 2005–06 A-League season and came equal first in the Johnny Warren Medal count for 2005–06.[5] [edit] International players The Roar have had a number of internationally-capped players represent them in their two seasons since forming prior to the 2005–06 A-League season. This has included eight members of the Australian national team. The Roar have also had one contracted Chinese international, Yuning Zhang and Scotish international, Charlie Miller.[6] Danny Tiatto (2007–present) was Frank Farina's second signing after Mori and the first of the 2007-08 season. Tiatto has made 21 appearances for the national side (including one goal) as well as representing his country at the 1996 Olympic Games. He was recruited to shore up the Roar defence and is a vital part of the coach's new team shape. Charlie Miller (2008–present) was signed in the Pre-Season of the 2008–09 Season, he scored a goal each game for the first 4 weeks of the season, making him the first A-League player to do so. He has made one appearance for his home country of Scotland. Michael Zullo (2007–present) has made two appearances for Australia, both of which came in 2009 against Indonesia and Kuwait. He was signed in 2007 from local Brisbane side, Brisbane Strikers. He also made one appearance for the Australia National U-23 Team in the lead up to the 2008 Olympic Games. Mitch Nichols (2007–present) has made one appearance for the Socceroos on the 4 March 2009 in a AFC Asian Cup qualifing match against Kuwait. He was signed from Palm Beach Sharks Soccer Club in 2007 and was included in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
