This is a list of the top 500 Major League Baseball leaders in career stolen bases. In the sport of baseball, a stolen base is a statistic credited to a baserunner when he successfully advances to the next base while the pitcher is delivering the ball to home plate.
Rickey Henderson holds the Major League Baseball stolen base record with 1406, and is the only player in Major League Baseball history with more than 1000 stolen bases. Second is Lou Brock with 938.
Listed are all Major League Baseball players with 152 or more stolen bases, the current cutoff for the top 500 (includes ties for the top 500, whenever applicable). Players in bold face are active as of the 2009 Major League Baseball season (including free agents), with the number in parentheses designating the number of stolen bases they have earned during the 2009 season.
