Linor Abargil (Hebrew: לינור אברג'יל‎, sometimes spelled Linor Aberjil; born February 17, 1980) is an Israeli model, who was the winner of the Miss World beauty pageant in 1998, after she had been crowned Miss Israel.[1]

Two months before being crowned Miss World, Abargil was raped by Uri Shlomo, an Israeli citizen working as a travel agent in Milan, Italy. She made her case public and Shlomo was arrested in Israel, charged with and found guilty of rape.[2] Abargil called for other women to follow her example.[3]

February 2006 newspapers announced that Lithuanian basketball superstar Šarūnas Jasikevičius (b. 1976) proposed to Linor Abargil, and the two started planning their wedding. Soon after Ynetnews announced that Baruch Marzel, the Chairman of the Jewish National Front party, wrote a letter to Linor Abargil Jasikevičius, in which he called on her to turn down Šarūnas' marriage proposal unless he converts.[4] Zahava Gal-On, member of the Meretz party, wrote her a letter saying: "Your life is yours alone, so you should marry whoever you want and in any manner that you desire..."[5]

Abargil and Jasikevičius married in a ceremony near Barcelona, Spain, in July, 2006. They divorced in 2008.[6]
