[edit] Education and Career

Kim attended Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois from 2000 to 2003 where she received a bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism. In the summer of 2003, shortly after returning from her first visit to South Korea, she approached the owners of KBC-TV with the idea of a weekly news magazine in English targeting second-generation Koreans and also Americans who watch Korean soap operas. At that time, all programming was in Korean. The focus would be on Asian restaurants, nightlife and local events. While the station president liked the concept, her idea was rejected.

Two years later, she heard that KBC was recruiting an English-speaking staff. She interviewed again with the station, and this time was offered not only a reporting job, but the anchor position, too.

Today, AAN News is a 30-minute program that is the only English-speaking show of its kind in the Midwest. The program covers Chicago's many vibrant Asian communities, current events and local issues. Kim's job often required taking on responsibilities not often associated with an anchor position, such as shooting her own footage and editing it as well.

Kim is also president of the Asian American Media Coalition (AAMC), founded in 2006.
