Niatia Jessica Kirkland (born October 4, 1989),^[2] better known as "Lil Mama", is an American rapper recently signed and released from Jive Records. Kirkland was born in Harlem and later moved to the East New York section of Brooklyn, New York where she attended Edward R. Murrow High School.^[3] She is currently a judge on the show America's Best Dance Crew. At the 2009 VMAs, Lil Mama appeared on stage towards the end of Jay Z and Alicia Keys' Empire State of Mind performance. She later apologized saying she got too enthusiastic about the performance and song (lyrics and all) and did not mean to 'ruin' their moment.
