Lifuka is an island in Tonga. It is located within the Haʻapai Group in the centre of the country, to northeast of the national capital of Nukuʻalofa. The coordinates are 19°47′56″S 174°21′24″W / 19.79889°S 174.35667°W It is the administrative centre of the Haʻapai group of islands with Pangai being the administrative capital village. Lifuka was the place where Captain James Cook dubbed Tonga "The Friendly Islands" and close to Lifuka off the island of Tofua is where the mutiny on the Bounty occurred in 1789.
