Lee Smith is a rugby league player who plays for the Leeds Rhinos and has also represented England. Lee will leave Leeds at the end of the current season, signing a 2-year deal with Guinness Premiership side London Wasps.[1] [edit] CareerSmith's position as a junior was fullback, but he has played the majority of his first-grade career on the wing. He played in the 2007 Grand Final on 13 October for Leeds Rhinos getting on the score sheet in Leeds' 33-6 victory over St Helens He played in 2008 Carnegie World Club Challenge on February 29 at Elland Road in which Leeds beat Melbourne Storm 11-4. He played in the 2008 Super League Grand Final victory over St Helens. Named at fullback as a replacement for injured Kiwi star Brent Webb, there were question marks over whether Smith would prove to be a weak link in the Rhinos side. However, he defied all his critics and produced an outstanding performance, scoring a try and making some vital plays in Leeds 24-16 win. He was awarded the Harry Sunderland Trophy as Man of the Match at the end of the game.[2] Lee marked his début performance for England RL by scoring a hat trick of tries against Papua New Guinea in the opening game of the 2008 Rugby League world cup. Lee recently eloped with his secret girlfriend Lucy on the 6th October 2008. He was named in the England squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.[3] Smith went on to score a hat-trick on his World Cup début for England in the opening match of the tournament, before the team exited the competition in the quarter finals. Lee Smith played at full back in the opening game of the 2009 Super League season despite being expected to move to the centre position. He scored two tries in this fixture against the Celtic Crusaders and was named the first engage super league man of the match for the 2009 season. On 23 June 2009 Lee Smith completed his transfer to rugby union side London Wasps. Lee will leave Leeds at the end of the current Super League season and has signed at Wasps until 2012.[4] In Ocotber 2009 Smith scored two tries in the Leeds Rhinos 3rd successive Super League final win against St Helens and was named in the England squad for the Four Nations trophy, in what would be his last league appearances before heading to union.
