Lecanoromycetes is the largest class of fungi.^[1] It belongs to the subdivision Pezizomycotina in the division Ascomycota.^[2] The asci (spore-bearing cells) of the Lecanoromycetes most often release spores by rostrate dehiscence.^[1] The majority of lichen-forming fungi belong to this class.^[1]
