Lake Park High School is a public, four-year high school comprising of two campuses, both located in Roselle, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. Juniors and seniors attend the West Campus and freshmen and sophomores attend the East Campus (the original campus), located near Medinah. It is part of the Lake Park Community High School District 108. Students from Medinah, Roselle, Bloomingdale, Keeneyville, Wood Dale, Itasca and Hanover Park attend the school.
[edit] HistoryThe name "Lake Park" is derived from the campuses being between "Lake" Street and Irving "Park" Road. The east campus borders the Medinah Country Club that has hosted three U.S. Opens (1949, 1975, 1990), two PGA Championships (1999, 2006), and will host the Ryder Cup in 2012. [edit] AcademicsLake Park High School offers approximately 245 course offerings in nine different academic areas, and at several different ability levels. The school offers 20 Advanced Placement courses in which college-level material is studied. Students may also choose from a variety of meaningful electives through which to explore career opportunities. The school's Applied Arts Department includes classes in business education, cooperative education, family and consumer sciences and industrial technology. The Fine Arts Department includes art and music. In 2008, Lake Park had an average composite ACT score of 22.3. That year, the school had a graduation rate of 90%. The average class size is 21. The school administered 630 Advanced Placement tests in 2008 with 80% of the scores being 3 or above. The staff has 158 teachers, of which 80% hold a Master's degree or above, compared to 53% in Illinois. The average number of years of teaching experience for the district is 14.5 years.
