Ladies Special is a daily show that airs on Sony Entertainment Television (India). It premiered on May 25, 2009 along with a host of other new TV shows, as part of a major revamp by Sony TV. The show is about the lives of four ladies who travel by the Ladies Special suburban railway train in Mumbai.

The story is set in Mumbai and is a take on the lives and challenges faced by women in big cities and how they sometimes find hope, encouragement and companionship in the most unlikely places. In this case, the protagnists are four women - Shubha Joshi, Nanda Shinde, Bubbly Chaddha and Pooja Singh - who travel to work and back by the Ladies Special train.

Neena Gupta as Shubha Joshi. She is aged 55 years and has a daughter who is married, and a son who lives in Canada. She takes voluntary retirement just to spend time with her husband only to realize on the day of her retirement that her husbad has a dark secret.

Shilpa Tulaskar as Nanda Shinde. She is aged 35-38 and has two children, a daughter and a son. Her efforts to cope with her growing teenage daughter form an important aspect of the story.

Ashita Dhawan as Bubbly Chaddha. She is aged 33 and has two young children. She is a spendthrift, and has a habit of frequently buying things on EMI.

Payal Sarkar as Pooja Singh. She is 23 and has been married recently. She is from the small town of Dhanbad and mild by nature. She slowly realises that her husband is an abusive man but has no option and decides to put up with him anyway, seeking solace and comfort with her friends from Ladies' Special.

Sandeep Kulkarni as Shivam Shinde, plays Nanda's husband.

Akash Khurana as Vipul Joshi, Shubha's husband. He has another wife in Pune, something that was not known to Shubha until much later.

Harsh Chhaya as Karan Singh, Pooja's abusive husband.

Varun Badola as Vinay Joshi. He plays the role of Shubha's son. He returns from Canada to live with his mother once his father passes away. Over the course of time, he develops feelings for Pooja.
