Lacrimal bone, medial anterior orbital cavity. The location of the Lacrimal foss for the Lacrimal sac
Latin fossa glandulae lacrimalis
Gray's subject #33 137

Lacrimal fossa can refer to one of two bony depressions in the orbital cavity:

  1. located on the inferior surface of each orbital plate of the frontal bone, is smooth and concave, and presents, laterally, under cover of the zygomatic process, a shallow depression, the lacrimal fossa (or fossa for lacrimal gland), for the lacrimal gland.
  2. a smooth, more deeply concave depression on the lacrimal bone, which forms the medial wall of the orbital cavity, in which the lacrimal sac that drains into the nasolacrimal duct is located, is referred to as the lacrimal fossa (or fossa for the lacrimal sac)
