[edit] Pre-AFL career

Henderson played his junior football in Birregurra, Victoria, before entering the AIS-AFL Academy, from which he graduated in 2007, the same year he completed his schooling at The Geelong College. He played TAC Cup football for the Geelong Falcons. After being drafted at selection 8 in the AFL Draft, Henderson was given the number 14 guernsey previously worn by former Brisbane Lion Richard Hadley.

A genuine key position prospect, Henderson was trialed at various positions in his debut season including forward, defensive and ruck roles. Lachlan Henderson is often compared to Jonathan Brown and Matthew Pavlich due to his strong marking ability, stamina and his ability to play at both forward (Centre Half Forward/Half Forward Flank) and back positions (centre half-back/half-back flank).

[edit] AFL Career

[edit] Brisbane Lions

His best performance in 2008 was against Essendon in the NAB Cup. Henderson kicked three goals and two behinds, finishing the game with eleven disposals and five marks playing as a Centre half-forward and full-forward. His standout game for the 2009 season came in round twelve against Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium in Launceston. Playing as an offensive Centre half-back, he kept Hawthorn's Jarryd Roughead to just one goal and set up three goals.

[edit] Carlton

Henderson was traded to the Carlton Football Club on Friday 9th October at 11:05am. Brisbane exchanged Henderson and its first round draft pick (#12 overall) for Brendan Fevola and a second round draft pick (#27 overall).
