Fazekas played in the 1978 and the 1982 World Cup. In the latter tournament, he scored two long shots in the 10-1 win over El Salvador at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero stadium. He also competed for Hungary at the 1972 Summer Olympics.[1] Fazekas started to play football in the youth team of Újpesti Dózsa in 1958, and played his first game in the Hungarian League in 1965. He joined Belgian Royal Antwerp in 1980 at the age of 33, where he also became a favourite with the fans. After his football carrier he became a notable coach in Belgium leading Eendracht Aalst (1986-88 and 1990-91) and Royal Antwerp (1995-96).
