Kristen Henderson is the rhythm guitarist for the band Antigone Rising. She and her sister Cathy formed the band in late 1993.
[edit] Personal lifeKristen grew up on Long Island with her older sister Cathy and their brother. After graduating high school she attended Bucknell University, where Cathy was also attending. They formed an all female band called Mistress while at Bucknell University with lead singer, Penelope "Peppy" Kokines. After graduation the three moved to New York City where they formed Antigone Rising. Kristen was originally the drummer in the band, except for when the band played acoustic gigs, during which she would play guitar. Kristen is the primary songwriter for the band.[1] A decision was made within the band to have Kristen play guitar instead of drums. Kristen and her partner, Sarah Ellis (marketing director of Real Simple magazine), became pregnant at the same time and in February 2009 they gave birth. Kristen to a boy, Thomas Tupper Ellis-Henderson. Sarah to a girl, Kate Spencer Ellis-Henderson. [edit] Antigone RisingMain article: Antigone Rising Kristen and Cathy formed Antigone Rising. The band's first show was on December 16, 1993 at Cafe Figaro on Bleecker St. The band released four independent albums and played at Lilith Fair in 1998. The band went on to sign with Lava Records in 2003 and their major label debut From the Ground Up was released in conjunction with Starbucks Hear Music label. The band has toured with Rob Thomas, The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers, Dave Matthews Band, moe., Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Aerosmith. Their most recently record album, Tales From Wonderland, will be released exclusively through Starbucks Hear Music Label. The band recently parted ways with their label Atlantic Records. They are now signed to Starbucks label, which will release the band's next album in their coffee stores, as well as record stores. Lead singer Cassidy left the band in 2008 and the band regrouped and renamed itself Antigone Four for a few months, but then went back to using Antigone Rising in late 2008. Kristen was also a judge for the 8th annual Independent Music Awards to support independent artists. [2] [3] [edit] References
