[edit] History

The EHC Kloten was founded on December 3rd 1934 by seven members led by Emil Hegner. During the first few years, only exhibition matches were played. The home matches were played on the frozen Nägelimoos-Weiher.

When the EHC Kloten began to participate in the championship, they had to start in the lowest league, as usual. In 1941, they were promoted into the Serie B and five years later into the Serie A. One year later, in the year 1947, the EHC Kloten was promoted into the Nationalliga B. In 1962, they joined the Nationalliga A, because the NLA was topped up from 8 to 10 teams.

In 1967 they became the champions for the first time, headed by their czech coach Vladimir Kobera.

[edit] Present

The team has remained in the highest league ever since they were promoted, meaning they are the longest-serving team in the NLA.

For the season 1998/99 the former Russian icehockey player Vladimir Yurzinov was obliged to become the new coach. Not only introduced he a new way of playing, but he also promoted the young players, which is paying-off nowadays. Even though many people liked this philosophy, success stayed away. During the season 2003/2004 the team had to play the playouts for the first time in the history of the team. One year later, in the Playout-season 2004/2005, they managed again to remain in the highest league.

In October 2004 Jursinow was released as their coach. He remained as a youth promoter until the end of the season in the team. The successor was the former EHC Kloten defense player Anders Eldebrink and his assistant coach, hockey legend Felix Hollenstein. The new duo managed to get the team back to success and is still in charge of the team.

In the season 2008/2009 the Kloten Flyers were in the Playoff final against the HC Davos, which they lost with 4:3 matches. The regular season was finished on the 3rd place. During the Playoffs they first defeated the HC Geneve-Servette by 4:0 wins and after that the EV Zug, also with 4:0 wins.

The club is having a well known junior programm. There’s a partnership between the Kloten Flyers and the teams of Bülach, Dielsdorf-Niederhasli and Winterthur. Since the founding oft he elite-junior league, the teams has won 19 titels. The latest being in the season 2005/2006.

[edit] Fans

The Kolping Arena is known to be atmospheric. On the standing places, it's Unity Kloten that is active. Unity is seeing themselves as an umbrella group of the Fanclubs South Kloten, Blue Eagles Kloten and Conspiro. When choreos are done, the old logo of EHC Kloten is always used instead of the new Kloten Flyers Logo.
