Khalnayak is a 1993 Bollywood film directed by Subhash Ghai.

[edit] Plot

The title Khalnayak literally means a villain.

Ballu (Sanjay Dutt) is a notorious, cunning, and unscrupulous criminal who's wanted by the police for a plethora of murders and thefts. Bright and ambitious Inspector Ram (Jackie Shroff) finally arrests him, only to have Ballu escape right under his nose. So Ram's lovely girlfriend Ganga (Madhuri Dixit) volunteers to go undercover, to trap Ballu and help restore Ram's reputation. Things get more complicated, however, when Ballu falls for her, and she finds that she isn't entirely immune to his charms.

The film is remembered for Dutt's impressive bad boy performance, and for the controversial hit song "Choli ke peeche". The eight-minute song was appreciated for Madhuri Dixit's swaying dance moves, thanks to Saroj Khan's brilliant choreography. It was met with widespread criticism for the meaning of its lyrics, which translate to "What's behind the blouse?" However, the publicity created by the controversy helped to make the song a cult classic of the Indian film industry.
