Kevin Penny is an English rugby league winger. Penny plays for Widnes Vikings on loan after moving from Warrington Wolves in the European Super League. Penny is also a youth level international for England.Kevin's little brother Kris Penny, is a striker at Hull City AFC at the under14s. Warrington's free-scoring winger Kevin Penny has signed a new, enhanced four-year deal keeping him at the Halliwell Jones Stadium until the end of the 2011 season.[1] Penny's game involves running and power, similar to Matty Bowen, Gareth Raynor and Mark Calderwood. After a Challenge Cup tie against St Helens, his play on the wing was compared by BBC commentator Ray French to Saints' South African wing of the 1960s, Tom van Vollenhoven. Kevin Penny joined the Wolves academy in 2005 after being spotted playing basketball at school.[2]
[edit] 2007Kevin made his senior debut For Warrington against the Leeds Rhinos on June 1, 2007 scoring two tries in a 42 - 26 defeat[3]. Shortly after his debut he received the engage Super League player of the month award for his efforts during the month of July 2007, despite starting the month with only 5 first grade games next to his name. He scored 5 tries in just 3 games during the month, 3 of which were scored in the space of just 9 minutes against the Salford City Reds. He was also named in the 2007 dream team[4] and was selected in the initial train on squad for Great Britain. Penny ended 2007 with 15 tries in 15 games. [edit] 2009 seasonOn 21 May 2009 Kevin was loaned out to Championship side Widnes Vikings after failing to force his way into Warrington's first team squad under new coach Tony Smith.[5] [edit] Fastest Man in Rugby LeagueOn August 26, 2009, Kevin will compete for the title of Fastest Man in Rugby League as part of a curtain raising competition at the Carnegie Floodlit Nines.
