Kerimäki is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Southern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 5,704 (30 June 2009)[2] and covers an area of 876.5 square kilometres (338.4 sq mi) of which 318.84 km2 (123.10 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 10.23 inhabitants per square kilometre (26.5 /sq mi). The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The Kerimäki Church, built between 1844 and 1847, is the biggest wooden church in the world (45 metres (150 ft) long, 42 m (140 ft) wide and 37 m (120 ft) high). There are over 3,000 seats there. Altogether there can be 5,000 people at a time in the church. Lake Puruvesi, which lies less than a kilometre away from the church, is one of the clearest lakes in the world.
