Kelvim Jose Escobar Bolivar (born April 11, 1976 in La Guaira, Venezuela) is a Major League Baseball starting pitcher for the New York Mets. He bats and throws right-handed. After six seasons of switching Escobar in and out of the bullpen, the Blue Jays established him as a starter in 2003. He had an 8-3 record in 14 starts after the All-Star break, and for the season, he posted a 12-8 record with 159 strikeouts and a 3.92 ERA in 26 outings. Escobar is second on the Blue Jays all-time single season saves list with 38, set in 2001. Escobar signed as a free agent with Anaheim before the 2004 season. As the second starter in the Angels rotation, Escobar went 11-12, but led his team in ERA (3.93), strikeouts (191, a career high), WHIP (1.29) and innings pitched (208.1, also a career high). In 2006, Escobar had an 11-13 record with a 3.61 ERA. In 2007, Escobar went 18-7 with a 3.40 ERA and 160 strikeouts, his best year by far. In March 2008, Escobar revealed a tear in his right shoulder that required season-ending surgery.[1]
[edit] New York MetsOn December 26 2009, Escobar offically signed a 1 year contact with the New York Mets This deal will give him a $1.25M dollar base salary, with up to $3M total in incentives based on games pitched. [2] On December 28, 2009, the New York Mets announced the Kelvim Escobar signing through a team press release.[3] [edit] Pitching StyleEscobar throws an 93-95 MPH four-seam fastball, an 90-92 MPH two-seamer, and a deceptive 83-85 MPH changeup.
