Micah S. "Katt" Williams[1] (born September 2, 1973)[2] is an American comedian, rapper, and actor. He is known for his stint on Nick Cannon's Wild 'n' Out. Williams rejected a scholarship to the Horizon Science Academy, choosing instead to emulate his idols such as Don Knotts, Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor by becoming a comedian.[3] Williams started being a stand up comedian most notably appearing on BET Comic View. His jokes and punchlines instantly made him a show favorite. He has also played supporting characters in movies such as "First Sunday", "Norbit", and probably more widely recognized for his character in the movie "Friday After Next" as "Money Mike". He has also provided numerous skits and video appearances for artists such as The Game, Ludacris, T.I., E-40, Outkast, Lil’ Kim, Lyfe Jennings, Cyrano Williams, Nick Cannon, DJ Drama, Lil' Scrappy, Lil Jon, and others. He was a cast member on Wild 'n Out for several seasons. He also voices "A Pimp Named Slickback" on the Adult Swim's "The Boondocks". He has rapped under the "Money Mike" name for songs by artists like The Game, Baby Bash, and Suga Free.
[edit] Early life
Williams was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and raised in Dayton, the son of a former member of the Black Panther Party.[4] As a child, Williams rejected a scholarship to The National Science Academy[5]; he began his career as a teenager. He was inspired by humorists such as Richard Pryor, Don Knotts, Eddie Murphy, Bill Cosby, George Carlin, Thomas Marshall, Jeff Foxworthy, Whoopi Goldberg, Jerry Seinfeld and Dave Chappelle, whom he calls the “Malcolm X of comedy,” As a means to get into a nightclub while underage, he noticed that they weren’t checking ID’s in the line for comics and proceeded to enter the club through that entrance. He was called on stage where he did a five-minute improv to an enthusiastic crowd. “I was so nervous but everyone laughed and thought I was funny. After that, I was opened up to the wonderful world of comedy...Improv is where a comic really gets to shine, if he is good. That’s as close as a comedian can get to the playoffs. I went through those years where I wanted to be the funny comic, now I’m trying to be the greatest comic of my time.” [edit] CareerBy 1999, he had become a presence at The Improv, The Comedy Club, The Icehouse and had his own room at The Hollywood Park Casino where he had a large, loyal following. He has appeared frequently on BET Network, appearing on shows such as Comic View, Rip the Runway, The Black Carpet, 106 & Park, The BET Awards and BET Comedy Awards. He has been embraced by the Hip Hop community, receiving praise from Master P (“Hands down Katt Williams is the next Richard Pryor”) and Snoop Dogg (“Katt is doing his comedy thing so flamboyantly and so fly with spirit of the late great Red Foxx and the spirit of Richard Pryor”.) In 2006, Williams hosted the 1st annual BET Hip Hop Awards Show from Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia. William's most widely known appearance was his role in three seasons of Nick Cannon’s highly-rated MTV improv show, Wild 'n Out. He has also appeared in music videos from Outkast (“Roses”) and Ludacris (“Stand Up” & “Number One Spot”) to E-40 (“One Night Stand”) and Lil’ Kim (“Shut Up/Lighter’s Up”). He has appeared in NYPD Blue, UPN’s Girlfriends and Cuts, The Tracy Morgan Show, Wanted, My Wife and Kids, HBO's Def Comedy Jam alongside Dave Chappelle and Mike Epps and an animated character (“A Pimp Named Slickback”) on the popular adult cartoon The Boondocks. He also co-starred in MTV’s half-hour improv series Nick Cannon Presents: Short Circuitz. He was named “hottest new comedian” in Rolling Stone Magazine and Steve Harvey has said of him, “He’s one of the hottest comedians in the country.” His film appearances include the role of “Money Mike” in the hit New Line movie Friday After Next, which became part of his stand up act. In September 2006 HBO aired Katt Williams: Pimp Chronicles Pt.1, taped live in Atlanta with guest appearances from Cam’ron, Lil’ Jon, Snoop Dogg, Andre 3000, Da Brat and introduced by Anthony Anderson. Over 8 million people viewed the show, which was the highest rated special on the HBO Network for both 2005 and 2006. He recently taped a sequel in Chicago titled American Hustle which was released in movie theaters nationwide in fall 2007. Both shows were produced by Barry Ehrmann of Enliven Entertainment, for Salient Media. In February 2007, he appeared in the Eddie Murphy film "Norbit". Williams also appeared in the romantic comedy, "The Perfect Holiday". In 2009, he is scheduled to star in the comedy "Marshals" along with co-star and producer Eddie Murphy. In 2006, Williams starred on his own new stand-up HBO show, The Pimp Chronicles Pt. 1. In 2009 Katt was arrested for breaking and entering, and robbery while shooting a movie in Georgia. Both Williams and his friend Walter O make cameo appearances in the 'Split Sides Comedy Club' in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV as themselves. As a guest on The Tonight Show in February 2007, he spoke about the importance of adopting from foster care, stating "I got my kids right here, I didn’t have to go to Africa to do it. Amazingly enough, there are needy kids right down the street." He has recently been seen in Ludacris' "One More Drink" music video. [edit] Filmography
