Kathi Appelt (born July 6, 1954 Fayetteville, North Carolina) is an American children's writer.

She moved to El Paso, Texas, and to Houston, Texas. She grew up on Mayo Avenue, Houston with her sisters, Patti and B.J. She graduated from Texas A&M University. She studied at Rice University.

She is married to a researcher in adult literacy at Texas A&M. They have two grown sons, Jacob and Cooper. She lives in College Station, Texas.^[1]

Her papers are held at the University of Southern Mississippi.^[2]
