Nava Jyothi Sri Karunakara Guru (September 1, 1927 - 1999) was born in Chandiroor, Alappuzha district, Kerala.^[1]

The humility, dignity and calm poise of this ascetic, attracted the young aspirant to the devotees who came in large numbers to the institution of Sivagiri Madam of Sri Narayana Guru.Before long, in the year 1957, the Guru bid farewell to Sivagiri and shifted to Varkala. That place had started to be known as Santhigiri. While at Sivagiri people used to call the Guru as Karunakaran Santhi. The word Santhi stands for the one who performs pooja -worship. The word giri stands for mountain. Thus, the giri -mountain- to where Karunakaran Santhi was shifted, becoming Santhigiri, which now truly signifies ‘the mountain of peace,’ place where tens of thousands of people have come seeking directions in their material, emotional and spiritual life so as to be led to the supreme aim of human life, which is the communion with the Supreme Light. This was the beginning of Santhigiri Ashram.

The teachings of Karunakara Guru inspired many creative writers of Kerala. His immense influence inspired O. V. Vijayan to write Gurusagaram.After the publication of `Khasakhinte Ithihasam' (Saga of Khazakh), described as Vijayan's masterpiece, he went through a barren phase which ended after his first encounter with the Guru. And then followed other works like `Dharmapuranam' and `Gurusagaram,' all dedicated to Karunakara Guru. Super hit Malayalam movie Guru was taken by Director Rajeev Anchal due to the influence of Karunakara Guru's teachings.

There is no importance or role for devis and devas{Bhrahmavu,Vishnu,Sivan,Bhadrakali,Lakshmi,Saraswathi,Ayyappan...........etc} in this yuga.This is kali yuga.In kali yuga only Guru have importance.People consider Kali yuga as a bad yuga or bad time period. Actually this yuga is good. The yugadharma of this yuga is the upliftment of the shudras.Knowing this,the upper caste wrote and propagated that Kali yuga is bad.For the upliftment of the totally ignorant and vanquished sudra,a fully grown(spiritually) or a complete Guru is needed.This guru conducts the yuga dharma.So,this guru is called the 'Yuga Purushan' of kali yuga.Not only shudras,any one can approach this guru for moksham or seeking directions in their material and spiritual life so as to be led to the supreme aim of human life, which is the communion with the Supreme Light.Guru has no partiality to anyone.Bhramin or Shudra,all are equal before Guru.Guru has only love,compassion and sacrifice.The actual god is Parabhramam.Guru came by the decision of Parabhramam.A complete guru will know and have experienced Parabhramam.Fortunately we man kind have got such a guru in this time period.That guru is Nava Jyothi Shree Karunakara Guru.He is the greatest guru,who have ever came by the decision of Parabhramam.There came 2444 Gurus including Jesus Christ,Prophet Nabi,Guru Gobind singh,Sri Narayana Guru,Vivekananda.................................etc.But they can't correct the mistake which came in the 23rd chaturyuga of the 7th manuanthara which was unknowingly committed by Sathyathranan,a Guru of Manu parambara.Because they were not complete or not fully grown spiritually.Now it is the 28th chathuryuga of 7th manuantharam.The mistake took place in 23rd chaturyuga of 7th manuantharam.Guru of that yuga was Sathyathranan.When he got ‘athmasathshaakaram’,which means experiencing Bhramam,he saw himself in all things,even in an atom.He mistakenly thought that he is bhramam.So he told chathurvakyas(AHAM BHRAMASMI,THATHWAMASI,….etc).These are the wrongs told by him.He is a Guru of Manu parambara. called Manu.After saying the chaturvakyas,he got curse from Bhramam that “Let the name Manu get disappear from the people’s mind”.Four chaturyugas went useless.After four chaturyugas,Parabhramam itself gave us a complete Guru to correct the mistake.This Guru is Karunakara Guru.Karunakara guru is the manu of this yuga.He not only knew and experienced Parabhramam,but also merged in Parabhramam.For correcting the mistake,giving knowledge to people about this,and thereby uplifting there spirits or souls(Jeevan),Guru have started an institution known as Shanthigiri with lot of Karmas or works.This ashram is irrespective of any caste or religion or state or country or man or woman or any thing.In ashram there is are only human beings.When one does a karma or work inside the ashramam,his soul grows or evolves to higher stages and thereby getting “Punyam” or holiness.Money,property,luck,etc depends on ones holiness.This holiness can be gained by doing ashram karmas.After a long time period of experience in ashram,one may become a Bhrahmachari or a swami(sanyasi).Bhrahmachari or Sanyasi is not particular person.Bhrahmacharyam a higher stage of life or soul.Sanyasam is alittle more higher stage of life or soul than Bhrahmacharyam.A Bhrahmachari and Sanyasi is closer to god or Parabhramam than us.As our soul gets evolved and gets on higher stages,that means we are getting closer to god.Guru is also a stage of life.A complete Guru is the top most level of soul and he has reached God or Parabhramam and merged into Parabhramam.Even though Karunakara leaved his body,he grew up a successor of his level;that is a guru.The peculiarity of this guru lineage is guru will never die.To know this is true or not,or to know a real guru,we must experience him.For more details visit Santhigiri ashram,Shanthigiri P.O,Pothencode,Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala.
