Kartika (Hindi: कार्तिक Kārtik or Sanskrit: कार्तिक^[1] Kārtik, Tamil: கார்த்திகை, Bengali: কার্ত্তিক Kartik), is a month of Hindu and Bengali calendars, named after Hindu god, Karttikeya.

In lunar calendars, Kartika may begin on either the new moon or the full moon around the same time of year, and is usually the eighth month of the year. However, in Gujarat, the year begins on Diwali, so Kartika is the first month of the year for Gujaratis.

In solar religious calendars, Kartika begins with the Sun's entry into Libra, and is usually the seventh month of the year.

The festival of Kartik Poornima (15th day Full Moon) falls in this month, celebrated as Dev Deepavali in Varanasi. Other festivals are Jain light festival and Guru Nanak Jayanti.

Kartika (কার্ত্তিক Kartik) is the seventh month of the Bengali Calendar used in Bangladesh and parts of India. It overlaps October and November of the Gregorian calendar. The name of the month is derived from the name of the star Krittika (কৃত্তিকা).

In India's national civil calendar, Kartika is the eighth month of the year, beginning on 23 October and ending on 21 November. In the Bikram Sambat in use in Nepal, Kartika is the seventh month, beginning on 18 October and lasting until 15 November.
