Karl Case is a professor of Economics at Wellesley College and founding member of Fiserve Case Shiller Weiss, Inc. Along with Robert Shiller and Allan Weiss, he developed the Case-Shiller index, quarterly reports on changes in home prices across the United States. Case and Shiller were among early forecasters of the current collapse of the United States housing bubble. For the last 30 years, Dr. Case has researched real estate markets and prices, housing, and public finance. He is the author of numerous articles and studies on boom and bust real estate cycles, and is author or co-author of five books including Principles of Economics (1986), Economics and Tax Policy (1986) and Property Taxation: The Need for Reform (1978). Principles of Economics, a primary economics text co-authored with Ray C. Fair and Sharon Oster, is in its ninth edition and is used at more than 450 colleges and universities. Dr. Case has taught at Wellesley for over 30 years, where he is the Katherine Coman and A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Economics. He is also a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, and serves as a member of the Boards of Directors of the Mortgage Guarantee Insurance Corporation (MGIC), Century Bank, The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and the New England Economic Project. He received his B.A. from Miami University and holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University. |
