Karina Carvalho is the news presenter for the ABC News in Western Australia, having replaced Alicia Gorey in May 2008. Carvalho was born in Sri Lanka, and moved to Winthrop, Western Australia at the age of four. She graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. After work experience in Perth and Sydney she moved to the UK, where she worked with the BBC as a journalist and producer on programs such as HARDtalk, and on assignment to the US. She returned to Perth in 2006, and in 2007 started work with the ABC, initially with casual work in the newsroom, progressing to full time on-camera reporting, before being promoted to the prestigious anchoring role.
