Kansas Speedway is an auto racetrack in Kansas City, Kansas, adjacent to the Village West area. The speedway, which is used by the NASCAR Sprint Cup series and the Indy Racing League, is a 1.5 miles (2.4 km) tri-oval with 15-degree banking in the turns, and is considered in some areas to be the sister track to Chicagoland Speedway, which was built around the same time and also owned by ISC. The track held its first race on June 2, 2001, when the Winston West series contested the Kansas 100. The top-level NASCAR Sprint Cup series holds the annual Camping World RV 400 at the track. In 2004, Joe Nemechek became the first driver to complete the double at Kansas Speedway by winning both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races in one weekend.

[edit] Future Plans

Plans are for a Hard Rock Hotel and Casino to be built after the state of Kansas approved plans on September 19, 2008. The hotel/casino will overlook turn two and the track will also apply for a second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race no later than 2011 [1], also the track plans on adding a road course. [2] These plans were later withdrawn citing concerns of the economy.[3]
