[edit] History

Born in Jinju to a family of one brother and three sisters, Kang graduated from Masan Business High School (마산상업고등학교). After graduating from high school, he immediately jumped straight into the world of professional Ssireum matches. Early on in his wrestling career, he lost a lot of matches. However, on July 8, 1989 at the 44th Wrestling Championships, the unseeded Kang Ho Dong managed to defeat the legendary Lee Manki, and later went on to win the tournament, starting his very successful Ssireum career. He was widely recognized as the youngest ever Korean Ssireum title holder, of which he went on to win for a total of five times. After he retired from wrestling, he began his television career in 1999 appearing on MBC as a talent. He was influenced by Lee Kyung Kyu. He later became the host of a number of different popular television shows produced by SBS, KBS, and MBC. Kang Ho Dong has won countless entertainment awards, and is widely regarded as one of the best show-hosts in Korean television history. He currently hosts four popular shows – KBS Happy Sunday: 1 Night 2 Days, MBC Golden Fishery, and SBS Star King, and Strong Heart.

[edit] Family

SBS Star King (스타킹) is a talent variety program that airs on the Saturdays. On this show they have different challengers (about 6 different performances) each week that compete for the title "STAR KING". During each show they will invite guests as judges, and there are also some regular judges on the show. The judges decide who will stay to compete with last week's challenger, and only two different performers can stay. The audience then chooses who they like best between the two challengers and the one with more votes gets to stay to challenge the winner from last week. The winner of the week will get to choose between the cash prize for the first win, which is 2 million (that is approximately CAD$2500) or coming back the following week to challenge again and possibly win ₩3 million. If they lose the second challenge they will only get half of their prize, which is ₩1 million (approximately CAD$1250).

Kang Ho Dong and Lee Seung Gi co-hosted a new talk show on SBS called Strong Heart (강심장). The first episode aired on October 6, 2009 receiving a well response from the audiences, placing third in ratings with 17.3% and 18.0% nationwide and Seoul respectively according to TNS Media.
