Kalkara:
Kalkara is a small town in Malta, with a current population of 2,871 (Nov 2005). The name comes from the Latin word for lime (Calce), as there was a lime kiln present there since Roman times.[1]
[edit] History
Being on the suburb of Birgu, the village of Calcara was very familiar to the fishermen and boatmen of that neighbourhood. It was considered as a resting place because of its environmental surroundings.
Throughout the years Calcara became a locality enriched with historical sites and places of interest while keeping its original character of being a quiet place where one can enjoy the views in full relaxation.
Miramax Films shot Pinocchio here in 2002.
