KTVA, channel 11, is a CBS affiliate in Anchorage, Alaska. The station is currently the only television station owned by the MediaNews Group newspaper chain. KTVA is broadcast on over-the-air on digital channel 28, as well as on the local cable system, GCI.
[edit] HistoryKTVA is Alaska's first TV station, having signed on the air on December 11, 1953. The station also carried a few NBC programs in the late 1960s, until KHAR-TV (Now KIMO) took the NBC affiliation in 1970. The station was also a DuMont affiliate in the early 1950s [1]. During the late 1950s, the station was also briefly affiliated with the NTA Film Network.[2] KTVA even carried Sesame Street from 1970 until KAKM signed on in May 1975.
