KIIT Law School (also KLS) is a law college imparting legal education to the students. The institution is situated in Bhubaneswar, Orissa within the KIIT University campus and is affiliated to the same. KLS offers five years integrated course in B.A. LLB., BBA. LLB. and BSc. LLB, LL.M and Ph.D.

[edit] Courses and departments

KLS offer five year dual degree integrated courses in B.A. LL.B, B.B.A. LL.B and B.Sc. LL.B. The courses are divided into ten semesters with six papers in each of the semesters. The courses are designed in such a way that it combine law degrees with ‘major’ and ‘minor’ papers in liberal arts, management and natural sciences. In the last semester, student can choose from Constitutional law, Business law, International trade law, Intellectual property Rights, Crime and Criminology, Agricultural law and International law as honours specialization. Moreover KLS is on the way to open several other specialisation topics which are not taught in other law schools in India like, Marine science and law, Mining law, Human resource law, Real estate and Development law, Food technology and Preservation law. KLS also offers LL.M, P.G. Diploma and Ph.D. academic programmes.

All the courses of KIIT Law School are approved by Bar Council of India and are affiliated to the parent KIIT University. The courses have been designed with the help of Prof. N.L. Mitra, an eminent law professor of and former Director of National Law School of India University, Bangalore and Former Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Jodhpur and other dignitaries of the field.

KLS have six separate departments; Department of Public Law, Department of Private Law, Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution, Department of Liberal Arts, Department of Business Studies and Department of Natural and physical sciences. KIIT Law School has planned to expand its departments and establish new ones like the Department of Maritime law, Department of Mining Law, Department of Food law and Department of Gender studies.

[edit] Infrastructure

The institute is located within a scenic and eco-friendly campus of 250 acres (1.0 km2) in the temple city of Bhubaneswar. The classrooms are air conditioned and have state of the art modern educational equipments like wireless LCD projector to teach the students in a friendly manner. The campus is connected by a 16 Mbit/s Wifi connection for easy access to the internet. The university has a central library consisting more than 90,000 books and journals on various topics and also have access to several renowned web libraries and journals. Services provided to the users include, Current Awareness Service (CAS), Reference Service, Documentation Service, Reprographic Service, Digital Library and Web Library. Apart from the central library, KIIT Law School maintains its own library for assisting the students and teachers. The library has subscribed to electronic databases like Manupatra and Westlaw and several other web journals.

Separate hostel facilities are available for boys and girls with modern amenities and 24 hours internet connectivity. The canteen serves hygienic Indian and continental dishes to the students. The cafeteria within the campus offers snacks, soft drinks and beverages. Students can practice several sports like basketball, lawn tennis, hockey, cricket, swimming and other indoor games like billiard in air conditioned rooms. Students and staff avail round the clock medical attention from Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences, a 500 bedded hospital with ambulances and out patient department in case of need. KIIT also has 25 buses to meet the transportation need of the students and staffs. An in-house computerized Post Office is functioning from the Campus. All postal stationeries along with Speed Post facility are available at the post office. Banking services along with 24 hours ATM are available of Allahabad Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank and State Bank of India to the students. A computerised railway ticket counter is operational from within the campus.

KLS has several experienced and trained faculty in the field of law and other fields. Most of the faculty members are either graduates from National Law Schools or have taught in them and many of them have PhD and have published several reports and articles. Prof. Dr. Faizan Muftafa, the Founder Director and adviser of the institute holds a Ph.D in Copyright laws from Aligarh Muslim University. Prof. N.L. Mitra, an eminent law professor of and former Director of National Law School of India University, Bangalore and Former Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Jodhpur is not only the chairman of the advisory committee but also holds regular classes. G.V. Ajjappa is Professor Emeritus in KIIT Law School, he has won the Best Law Teacher in SAARC Region.

[edit] Admission

Students are admitted to the institute through a written all India common test known as KLSAT (KIIT Law School Admission Test), which is generally conducted in the month of May. Apart from the score in the KLSAT a student must have passed the 10+2 or equivalent examination in any stream with at least 50 % marks. For B.Sc.LL.B (hons) candidates should have passed 10+2 or equivalent in the science stream with at least 55% marks; and have not completed 21 years of age on the year of examination.
