Jung-gu is one of the 25 gu which make up the city of Seoul, South Korea. It is located on the north side of the Han River, and is the historical center of the city (hence the name, literally "central district").
[edit] OverviewLocated in the heart of Seoul, Jung-gu is an area with a variety of old and new. It is a center of modernity, where facilities such as department stores and shopping malls are clustered together[citation needed], and also a center of tradition, where valuable historic sites such as Deoksugung and Namdaemun can be found. Located here is the Gwangtonggwan, the oldest continuously-operating bank building in Korea.[1] It was registered as one of city's protected monuments on March 5th, 2001.[2] In addition, together with cultural sites as Myeongdong Cathedral and the Bank of Korea Museum, there are famous landmarks of Seoul such as N Seoul Tower on Namsan mountain in Jung-gu. [edit] Historic figuresJung-gu is the center of Seoul. Because this, historically it was a fitting place for many scholars who stayed in Seoul to discuss and pursue crucial academic or political subjects during the Joseon Dynasty.
[edit] EconomySeveral companies in the Hanjin conglomerate have head offices in Jung-gu. The Hanjin Building along Namdaemunno has the offices of Hanjin Travel Service, Jungsuck Enterprise Co., Ltd., Hanjin Information System & Telecommunication Co., Ltd., Total Passenger Service System Co., Ltd., Cyber Logitech Co., Ltd. and Cybersky Co., Ltd.[3] Global Logistics System Co., Ltd., the Jungsuck Educational Foundation, and the Korea Research Foundation for the 21st Century are in the Hanil Building Bongnae-dong.[3] Air France operates a ticketing office on the 11th floor of the Korean Air Building in Jung-gu.[4] Air China has an office on the 1st and 2nd floors of the Hansuang Building in Seosomun-dong in Jung-gu.[5] Hainan Airlines operates its South Korea office in Suite 1501 of the Samyoung Building in Sogong-dong, Jung-gu.[6] [edit] Attractions
