Joshi (also known as Joshiy, and Joshy) ^[1] is a noted film director in Malayalam cinema ^[2][3], most known for his 'family-action' films, including New Delhi, Nirakkoottu, Nair Saab, Naduvayikal, Kauravar, Dhruvam, No:20 Madras Mail, Lelam and Naran.^[4]

His most recent work is the 2009 film, Robinhood.

Joshi hails from Varkala, in the Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, where his family ran movie-houses. He has done 63 films so far, starting with Tiger Salim (1978) ^[1]. He is known for directing thrillers like New Delhi, Kauvravar thrillers, like Nair Saab, Sankham Lelam, Pathram The action cuts in some of his movies are so crafty that these can be comparable to Hollywood movies. He is one of the directors who have used Mammootty very well Almost all of his movies are made with whopping budgets - which represented a typical Joshi film. This factor makes him a risky director for producers - his movies can either be huge hits or huge flops. He directed the multi-satar movie TwentyTwenty with MAmmootty, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi Jayaram and Delip. His next multi star movie with Mohanlal SureshGopi and Delip is Christian Brothers. Joshi is a man without any fuss, very calm and composed. One can't find him involved in any controversies, and he grants interviews very rarely. A superstitious man the cars he own are all painted maroon. Though most of his movies are entertainers Joshi never misses any film festivals. He was also once the Chairman of MACTA (Malayalam Cine Technicians Association). Joshi & veteran script writer Dennis Joseph together made major hits for Mammooty & Mohanlal during 80's & 90's. Mammootty & Joshi team always give hits.
