Jonathon Griffin (born 14 January 1986) is an Indigenous footballer currently playing with the Adelaide Crows in the Australian Football League and Central District Bulldogs in the South Australian National Football League. Griffin was drafted by the Adelaide Crows from East Fremantle Football Club in Western Australia at the end of 2004 and spent the 2005 season on the rookie list. He was upgraded to the senior list for the 2006 season but spent most of 2006 playing reserves for Central District Bulldogs. Griffin got his AFL chance in the early rounds of 2007 due to the departure of Matthew Clarke and injuries to Rhett Biglands and Ivan Maric. Although he was recruited as a key-forward Griffin was required to play as a ruckman. Many thought Griffin was not yet ready to play at the highest level as a ruckman because of his lanky figure, however Griffin managed to hold his spot for the first 13 rounds of 2007 before being replaced by the returning Ivan Maric. Griffin has gotten off to a good start in the 2008 Australian Football League season, with strong performances against very good ruck opponents in Will Minson and Ben Hudson, of the Western Bulldogs, Dean Cox and Mark Seaby of the West Coast Eagles and Dean Brogan and Brendon Lade of Port Adelaide. Griffin was a key contributor for Adelaide in the round three game against local rivals Port Adelaide. While not strongly dominating Griffin was very consistent, making few errors, in a game in which he had to stay on the field for almost the whole game asAdelaide's bench was depleted by injuries, which is uncommon for most ruckmen. He also kicked a goal in the fourth quarter from just inside 50 metres, the goal helped seal the victory for Adelaide in a tight contest.
