John Wilshere (born 5 May 1978) is a Papua New Guinean professional rugby league footballer who currently plays in Super League for the Salford City Reds.

He is a household name in Papua New Guinea, where rugby league is the national sport[citation needed]. He has represented his country many times and was a key player in their squad at the 2008 Rugby League World Cup in Australia.

His previous clubs include Leigh Centurions, Warrington Wolves and the National Rugby League's St George Illawarra Dragons and Melbourne Storm. He is Salford's specialist goal-kicker.

He is the current captain of the Papua New Guinea national rugby league team.[1] Wilshere was named as part of the Papua New Guinea squad for the 2009 Pacific Cup.[2]

On November 7, 2009, Wilshere announced his retirement from the Kumuls. [3]
