The Rt Rev John William Ashton (1866 – 20 March 1964) was the second Bishop of Grafton ^[1]. He was born in 1866 and educated at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield and the University College, Oxford before embarking on an ecclesiastical career with a curacy at All Saints, Northampton^[2]. In 1896 he emigrated to Australia where he was Rector of St Andrew’s, Brisbane and then Vicar of East St Kilda before his elevation to the Episcopate. He died on 20 March 1964^[3].
