[edit] Career

Thompson started his career at Nottingham Forest, a product of their youth academy. He made his first professional appearance under Paul Hart in 2001–02 after graduating from the academy the preceding summer. He made over 100 appearances for Forest and scored 8 goals.

Thompson was released at the end of 2006-07 season, and subsequently joined Oldham Athletic on a three-year contract.[1] While at Oldham, Thompson was loaned to Notts County on 17 October 2008, for a six week period. After his loan finished, Thompson was released by Oldham, though he signed for Notts County shortly after on 6 January 2009 in a contract ending in June 2011. He scored his first and second goal for Notts on the 2 May 2009, against Wycombe Wanderers with two long range efforts.

Thompson was called up by the Republic of Ireland team in 2004, and has made 3 full international appearances so far.
