John Morony Correctional Centre is an Australian male prison located in Berkshire Park, New South Wales, Australia.[1] It was originally a young offenders institution, until it was opened as a correctional centre in 1991. The correctional centre is made up of two distinct institutions situated next to each other; John Morony 1 and John Morony 2. John Morony 1 is a medium security closed centre. It houses approx 350 inmates and has industries including a metal shop, a car bumper repair shop. John Morony 2 houses approx 350 inmates and has a kitchen, food service industry as well as domestic and clerical industries. The complex is named after a former commissioner, John Morony, who rose up through the ranks from a Prison Officer to become Comptroller General of the department. He retired in 1971 and took up a position on the NSW Parole Board which he had been instrumental in setting up. [edit] References
