John Handley High School is an endowed public high school located in the city of Winchester, Virginia. It was founded by a grant from Judge John Handley, hence the school mascot, the Judges. Construction on Handley High School started in 1922, and continues to the present day. Today, the school is currently under a multi-million dollar renovation. In 1998, Handley was placed on the list of the National Register of Historic Places.
[edit] AcademicsHandley has many AP classes: AP US History, taught by George Glossner, AP Physics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP French Language, AP German, AP Spanish, AP Latin, AP English Language, AP English Literature, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB and BC. [edit] AthleticsHandley supports a winning athletics department. The Girls Tennis Team are three-peat champions, winning first in the state in 2007, 2008, and now 2009.[1] In 2009, the Boys Basketball team finished as Regional II Champions. Handley graduates are very successful in college admissions. The Class of 2009 has students at University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, William & Mary, New York University, Wake Forest, Macalester College, Wellesley College, James Madison University, University of Mary Washington, Virginia Commonwealth University, West Virginia University, University of Georgia and many more.
