John Chow-Hoon (1927 - 1988) was a prominent martial artist and greatly respected practitioner of Jujitsu and Kenpo. His brother was William Kwai Sun Chow, a forefather of many Kenpo schools now existing throughout the United States and Ed Parker's teacher. Chow-Hoon studied Danzan-ryu Jujitsu initially under the tutelage of Sig Kufferath who was the recognized grandmaster of Danzan-ryu after Henry Seishiro Okazaki died.[1] Chow-Hoon also studied Kenpo with his brothers Frank and William Chow. He received his Kenpo Shodan in 1943 and Jujitsu Shodan in 1945. Chow-Hoon was also known to moonlight with Charles Kalani, Jr. also known as Professor Toru Tanaka in professional wrestling, using the pseudonym Mr. Kim. In 1978 Chow-Hoon, Wally Jay, Willy Cahill, and Carl Beaver created Jujitsu America. Through this association they would seek to enhance the skill level by addressing modern realities [2]. He went on to develop his own variation of Kosho-ryu Kenpo called Goshin-Jitsu Chow-Hoon and acquired a devoted following of students throughout the United States, particularly in the Monterey Bay area where his system survives today. Chow-Hoon’s highest ranking student is James Muro who is the gatekeeper of the association Goshin-Jitsu Chow-Hoon. Neil Hourston is James Muro's UK representative. Chow-Hoon was recognized as Judan in both Danzan-ryu Jujitsu and Kosho-ryu Kenpo. [edit] See also
