Jamie W. "Joe" Bateman (born May 6, 1980 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts) is a minor league baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Bateman was a standout at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Massachusetts from 1999 through 2002. In one of his first starts as a freshman, the three-time All-Conference pitcher tossed a no-hitter against Salem State College. Bateman was first signed by the San Francisco Giants on June 7, 2002. He began the 2002 season with their Class A (Short Season) affiliate, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. After playing there again in 2003, he was promoted to the Class A Hagerstown Suns in 2004. During the season, he was promoted to the Double-A Norwich Navigators. During his only at bat of the season, Bateman became the first pitcher in Navigators history to hit a home run. In 2005, he played for the Giants' Class A-Advanced San Jose Giants. In 2006 and 2007, he again played for their Double-A club, which had changed to the Connecticut Defenders. In six seasons in the Giants' minor league system, Bateman achieved a 26-24 win-loss record, recorded a 3.07 ERA, tossed 382 strikeouts, and recorded 38 saves. He has been an All-Star three times; in 2004 with Hagerstown (Low A),in 2005 with San Jose (High A), and 2008 with Huntsville (AA). During the 2007 Rule 5 draft, he was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the Triple-A phase and was assigned to their top farm club, the Nashville Sounds. Prior to the start of the 2008 season, he was reassigned to their Double-A Huntsville Stars, but was later called back to Nashville mid-season. Bateman posted the best season of his career in 2008. In Huntsville, he appeared in 26 games (44 2/3 innings) with a 2.47 ERA. He struck out 39 batters while walking only 13. After being called up mid-season to Nashville, he appeared in 23 games, (33 2/3 innings) with a 1.60 ERA and converted all four of his save chances. He struck out 37 batters while walking only 9. Bateman finished the season on a scoreless streak spanning 20 2/3 innings. He allowed only 12 hits during the streak which spanned 15 outings. Bateman pitched for Azucareros del Este in the Dominican Winter League in the Fall of '08. He threw 25.0 innings in 22 relief appearances. He finished 4-0 with a 2.88 ERA allowing only 19 H and 9 BB over that span. He also recorded 19 K's. He was released by the Brewers during spring training 2009. Eduardo Morlan (born March 1, 1986 in Havana, Cuba) is a minor league baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the third round of the 2004 draft, and was acquired by the Rays on November 28, 2007. He started the 2008 season with the Montgomery Biscuits of the Double-A Southern League. He was chosen by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2008 Rule 5 draft, and added to their 40-man roster. However, during spring training, he was designated for assignment and returned to the Rays. Eduardo Morlan attended Coral Park High School, and was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the third round of the 2004 draft, and was signedigned by Hector Otero. After being signed, Morlan was assigned to the Gulf Coast League Twins. Morlan made his professional debut as a member of the Gulf Coast League Twins, and appeared in 11 games, making two starts. Morlan began the 2005 season at Elizabethton of the Appalachian League, and made four starts, posting a 0.82 earned run average. Morlan spent the entire 2006 season with Beloit of the Midwest League, and appeared in 28 games, making 18 starts. He was named a Midwest League All-Star after he posted a 2.29 earned run average in 106.1 innings of work, struck out 125 batters, and held opponents to a .202 batting average. When the names were rolled out for the 2007 Florida State League All-Star Game, Morlan represented the Miracle. In December 2007, Morlan was included in a deal that sent him, Matt Garza, and Jason Bartlett to the Tampa Bay Rays for Delmon Young, Brendan Harris, and Jason Pridie. He missed most of the first half of 2008, injuring his shoulder after six relatively ineffective performances to begin the season. He rejoined the Biscuits’ bullpen a few weeks, but has only made five relief appearances since coming back to the team. In 13.0 innings pitched, he has surrendered 17 hits, two of which were homers, eight runs (seven earned). Morlan’s three-pitch repertoire. The 6’2” 210 pound righty has been clocked approaching 100 MPH on his fastball. His curveball is rated as one of the five best in the Minnesota organization by Scout.com, and he has confidence to throw both the breaker and his above-average change in fastball counts.[citation needed] [edit] Cody StraitCody Strait (May 28, 1983 in Sour Lake, Texas) is a Minor League Baseball outfielder for the Tampa Bay Rays organization. From University of Evansville and Ranger College, he was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 12th Round (348th overall) of the 2004 amateur entry draft,[1] signing on June 16, 2004.
