Joe Bageant (born 1946) is an American author and columnist known for his book Deer Hunting With Jesus.

Bageant was originally raised in Winchester, Virginia. Bageant left Winchester and worked as a journalist and editor. He moved back to Winchester in 1999.^[1]

In Deer Hunting With Jesus Bageant discusses the poor rural Whites of the United States and the socioeconomic aspects.^[1] The book is mainly centered on his hometown, Winchester.^[2]
