Joaquín Caparrós (born October 13, 1955 in Utrera, Seville) is a football (soccer) coach, currently with La Liga Basque side Athletic Bilbao. He has coached many football clubs, such as Recreativo de Huelva, Villarreal CF, Sevilla FC and Deportivo de La Coruña. Caparros became famous when in 1997-98 took Recreativo de Huelva into Segunda Division. He joined Villareal and succeeded the promotion to La Liga with a third place, having advantage over Salamanca. Caparros won Spanish Segunda with Sevilla FC, with players including Carlos Marchena, Jose Antonio Reyes and Jesuli. In La Liga, Sevilla reached the sixth place in 2004 and 2005, with players like Julio Baptista, Adriano, Daniel Alves, Renato and Sergio Ramos. Caparros moved to La Coruña, and had a remarkable season in 2005-06, but in 2006-07 Deportivo had poorer results and Caparros moved to Athletic de Bilbao. With a successful second round, Bilbao finished ninth. Now, Athletic Bilbao, beating Sevilla FC 3-0 at the San Mames qualified for the Copa del Rey final and next season will play in the UEFA Cup.
