Joan Lorraine Walley (born 23 January 1949, Stoke-on-Trent, Mrs Jan Ostrowski) is a politician in the United Kingdom.
[edit] Early lifeShe attended Biddulph Grammar School (now known as Woodhouse Middle School) on Woodhouse Lane in Biddulph, north Staffordshire. At the University of Hull, she gained a BA in Social Administration. From the University College of Wales, Swansea, she gained a Diploma in Community Work Development. From 1970-3, she worked on an Alcoholics Recovery Project. From 1974-8, she was a Local Government Officer for Swansea City Council. She worked for Wandsworth Council from 1978-9. From 1979-82, she was a Development Officer for NACRO. [edit] Parliamentary careerSince the deselection of her predecessor John Forrester in 1987, she has been Labour Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Stoke-on-Trent North (the second female MP for the seat after Harriet Slater from 1953 to 1966). Walley had previously been a councillor on Lambeth Council. [edit] Personal lifeShe married Jan Ostrowski in 1981 and they have two sons. Walley is a Port Vale supporter (Port Vale is the major club within her constituency).[1] [edit] References
