Joan Verdú Fernández (born 5 May 1983 in Barcelona, Catalonia) is a Spanish professional footballer who currently plays for RCD Espanyol, as an attacking midfielder.

[edit] Football career

A product of FC Barcelona's youth system, Verdú played mainly for its B side, making his first team debut in December 2004, in a UEFA Champions League 0-2 away loss against FC Shakhtar Donetsk.[1]

In 2006–07, he moved to Deportivo de La Coruña, being relatively used by the Galicians throughout the season, netting in a 2-0 triumph at Villarreal CF, on February 11, 2007. Verdú produced similar numbers in his second season.

Profitting from Juan Carlos Valerón's age and recurrent physical problems, Verdú had a breakthrough year in 2008–09, often assuming the playmaking duties of the former, while also adding seven league goals. However, as his contract expired in June, a new deal could not be agreed, and he moved back to Catalonia after three years, signing a four-year deal with RCD Espanyol.

On September 19, 2009, Verdú netted against his previous team, in a 3-2 away triumph.
