  • Queensland Junior Representative

Jesse Jackson White (born 9 January 1988 in Melbourne, Australia), is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League. He was drafted to the Sydney Swans on 25 November 2006 with selection 79.

Jesse stands at 196cms and was drafted from the Australian state of Queensland. A former basketballer who represented Queensland at junior levels, he quit basketball at under 16s level to concentrate on football with the aim to be drafted but was hampered by injuries in 2005, not realising his dream until 2006.

[edit] Basketball

Jesse played for the Australian state of Queensland in Basketball, but quit the sport to concentrate on AFL.

[edit] Swans career

Despite playing in a trial match against Collingwood, a NAB Cup match against Western Bulldogs, and a trial match against Richmond during the 2007 pre-season, White didn't make his league debut until Rd 6, 2008. It was a controversial debut, with White mistakenly entering the playing field before Darren Jolly left the field in the final minutes of their drawn match against North Melbourne. The AFL fined Sydney $50,000 for having an extra man on the field for approximately 18 seconds.[1]

[edit] Move up forward

Jesse White was groomed as a replacement in the forward line in life after Barry Hall and Michael O'Loughlin. However, in 2009 when Everitt retired, White was often called into the side as a second ruckman, but failed to impact the game. After Sydney spearhead Barry Hall's retirement, White was moved back into the forward line to give it a boost of strength with considerable success, kicking 4 goals in his first match as a permanent forward. White's main strength is his considerable speed for a man of his size, and causes many defenders headaches. He has played and arguably out-done some of the top defenders in the AFL such as Matthew Scarlett, in a game in Sydney late in the year where White kicked three goals. Jesse has recently signed a three-year contract extension with the Sydney Swans that will keep him out of reach of the new Gold Coast club.

[edit] Nab rising star award

Jesse White was awarded the final Ron Evans Medal (NAB Rising Star award) nomination in round 22 of the AFL home and away season. Although the award was won by Brisbane Lions young gun Daniel Rich.
