Jerome Kennedy QC, MHA (born in Carbonear, Newfoundland and Labrador) is a Canadian politician. Before entering politics in 2007 Kennedy was a successful criminal lawyer in St. John's.[1]
[edit] Early life and education
Kennedy was born and raised in Carbonear, Newfoundland and Labrador and is the oldest of nine children of Patrick and Flora Kennedy. He graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1981 with a bachelor of arts. He then earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of New Brunswick Law School in 1984 and was admitted to the Newfoundland Bar in 1985. Kennedy began practising criminal law full time in 1989.

On November 1, 2006 he ran unsuccessfully in a by-election in the district of Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi. To replace Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party Leader, Jack Harris. The winner of this by-election was Harris' successor as New Democrat Leader, Lorraine Michael. The Newfoundland and Labrador Liberal Party did not run a candidate in this by-election and endorsed Lorraine Michael.
On October 9, 2007 he was elected to represent the riding of Carbonear-Harbour Grace in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the provincial election. Kennedy is a member of the Progressive Conservatives and since the 2007 provincial election, he has held the Ministerial post for the Department of Justice, the Department of Finance and is currently Minister of Health and Community Services.[2][3]
