Jeremy Theobald is a British actor best known for his portrayal of Bill (credited as "The Young Man"^[1]), the main character in Christopher Nolan's major picture debut, Following (1998). Following, for which Theobald was also a producer,^[2][3][4] was filmed around their day jobs.^[5] Jonathan Ross, writing in the New Statesman, noted that "Nolan and his cast are terrific finds: I wouldn't normally say this to struggling artists, but they might want to give up their day jobs."^[6] Theobald also appeared in Larceny, a short film shot by Nolan while in the UCLU Film Society,^[7] and Doodlebug,^[8] another short film by Nolan. Nolan went on to direct Memento, the Hollywood version of Insomnia, and Batman Begins, in which Theobald had a walk-on part as the "younger Gotham water board technician".^[9][10] As with many British actors, he has also had a part in an episode of ITV's The Bill.^[11]

Theobald has a degree in Physiology from UCL,^[12] and was a Managing Editor of the Journal of Pathology^[13] with the publisher Wiley.^[14] He is now Executive Editor of the Forum for Global Health Protection,^[15] a not-for-profit company sponsored by the Health Protection Agency. He has an interest in publication ethics,^[16] and he is currently the Treasurer of the Committee on Publication Ethics,^[17] a London-based organisation of biomedical journals.

Theobald is sometimes mentioned by Rob Smyth in his "Over-by-over" cricket column in The Guardian.^[18]
