Jason Clermont (born May 28, 1978 in Regina, Saskatchewan) is a professional, Canadian football player who currently plays the slotback position for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL. During the offseason, Clermont works as a real estate agent in Regina for Royal LePage.
[edit] College careerClermont played high school football at Robert Usher Collegiate (since closed) in his home town of Regina, Saskatchewan. Clermont played the quarterback and linebacker positions for his high school team. Following high school, Clermont played for the Regina Rams of the Canadian Junior Football League. In 1999 the Rams joined forces with the University of Regina to make the jump to CIS and the Canada West conference. collegiately for the University of Regina Rams under coach Frank McCrystal. In 2006, Clermont returned to the University of Regina and completed his bachelor degree studies in Administration. [edit] Professional career[edit] BC LionsClermont was drafted in the first round (4th overall) of the 2002 CFL Draft by the BC Lions. Clermont, playing the slotback position, contributed to the BC Lions offence immediately, and at the end of the season, was awarded the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie Award. In 2004 CFL season, Clermont started all of the Lions' 18 regular season games and playoff games. He tallied 1,220 yards on 83 receptions, and caught 7 touchdown passes. He was awarded the Canadian Football League's Top Canadian Player award, was named to the Western Division All-Star team. Clermont was also named Top Canadian Player in the 2004 Grey Cup game. For the majority of the 2006 CFL season, Clermont was injured with a torn MCL. He was injured when fellow teammate offensive lineman Rob Murphy fell on his leg with an accidental chop block. The incident happened in the first quarter of the Lions' season opening 45-28 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He made his return on August 10, 2006, and saw limited action in a 32-5 win against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2007, Clermont caught 86 passes for 1158 yards and 7 TDs. He won his second CFL Most Outstanding Canadian award and he was named a CFL All-Star.
