[edit] Storylines

Jase arrived in Walford in search of his estranged son, Jay Brown, on 19 July, 2007. He appeared to flirt with Honey Mitchell, angering her husband Billy. When Billy found Jase's letter regarding visits to a probation office, he told the community that Jase was a criminal, causing them to shun him. When Jay discovered his father had been in prison, he reacted badly and was arrested for carving "LIAR" into a bus shelter, referring to Jase's lies about where he had been all his life. Despite the initial animosity, Jase and Jay began to bond.

During October 2007, Jase met Terry Bates, leader of a gang of football hooligans, who looked after Jase when he was a teenager. It was Jase's involvement with the gang that had led to his imprisonment and Jase didn't want to be part of the gang any longer, as he had a son to look after. Terry was angry about this and made various threats to get him to reconsider. Jase refused and, in November 2007, Terry's gang raided The Queen Victoria public house looking for him. Jase was dragged into the cellar and beaten. Meanwhile, a heavily pregnant Honey Mitchell called the police and was knocked over by the gang and went into premature labour. The baby she gave birth to appeared to be stillborn, but was resuscitated by the medics. Jase swore revenge on Terry and threatened to kill him to gain his freedom, but was stopped by the intervention of Phil Mitchell, who called the police and the gang were arrested. Phil wanted repayment for his help and forced Jase to assist him in his various vendettas.

Following a brief fling with Roxy Mitchell, Jase cultivated a more serious relationship with Dawn Swann, whom he proposed to on 6 June 2008. He unknowingly began working for May Wright, the woman who had planned to adopt her daughter, Summer. When Dawn changed her mind about May adopting her baby, May tried to kidnap her instead. A violent confrontation occurred when May tried again to abscond with Summer and caused a gas explosion in Dawn's house; Jase saved Summer's life, catching her when she was dropped from a first floor window. With their home burnt down and no money, Dawn began to fret over their financial future. Wanting to please Dawn, Jase took a mysterious call saying he would do "one more job for him." The next day Jase brought home a bag full of money. Dawn then spent the money on various things including clothes and rent money for a new flat.

In July 2008, it was revealed that Jase had adopted Summer and his name had been put on her birth certificate.

Dawn's demands continued, so Jase continued to do more jobs for his associate. When he came home beaten and bloodied, he was forced to admit to Dawn that he was once again working for Terry Bates. Dawn was initially furious, but despite realising he was involved in criminal activity, she made no attempt to stop him as she was desperate to keep the money and get the wedding of her dreams. Jase spoke of leaving Walford to escape Terry, but Dawn then announced that they had set a date for their wedding, ensuring that Jase could not leave.

Jase cancelled his stag night in August 2008 to collect £100,000 for Terry. Jase reluctantly took Billy on as a getaway driver, revealing his intention to steal Terry's money. They agreed to split the money 60/40, however upon arriving at the location of the job, there was no money, only a note stating that Terry and his men had Jay and the job was a setup. When they arrived back at the flat in search of Jay, Jase was greeted by Terry and his men wielding baseball bats. He was stabbed in the chest by Terry. The police arrived and arrested Terry and his gang, however Jase died later in hospital. Dawn discovered his death on the day of their wedding.

On August 29, 2008, Jay identified his father's body in the mortuary. He was eventually cremated on October 7, 2008, with Jay, Dawn, Darren, Garry, Minty and Billy attending the funeral. In May 2009, Terry was sentenced to life imprisonment for Jase's murder.
